Juraj Ďuriš (1992) is an artist from Nitra, Slovakia, who graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Brno.
The main focus of his work lies in painting; however he is not afraid to experiment with objects, installations or street-art. In his bachelor thesis already he dealt with the challenging subject of a portrait series, in which he reached the end of his limits as well as the limits of portrait art as such. He examined the external circumstances which affect the creation of a painting as such which resulted in a remarkable series ranging from realistic portraits to works on the brink of abstraction.
Ďuriš draws inspiration from a blend of various environments, be it graffiti, advertisements or classical painting. He does not hesitate to employ the legacy of pop-art and to develop it in a swirl of colour and light in his landscapes of cigarette boxes and branded cities. In his energetic style he approaches themes such as portrait, still life or genre painting; he toys with composition and self-confidently displays the space within his canvases. The artist’s works are technically mature and thought-out, he is not afraid of clear, expressive brushstrokes or subtle light and colour modelling. This results in fantastic worlds and compositions of lively, clean colours bursting with life.
